Michigan Basketball: 3 takeaways from the manhandling of Minnesota
By Nick Popio
2. Minnesota looks like the bottom feeder of the Big Ten
The Gophers are a mess nine games in. They have now lost four straight and look like they have no identity or no one that can save them. They have zero noteworthy wins and will remain that way thru the non-conference part of their schedule unless they can shock Mississippi State in the barn on Sunday, then the Big Ten will probably eat them alive once that gets going.
Minnesota really showed next to no life at all in the loss. When Michigan basketball got up by 20 or so they would cut it down to around 13, only for the Wolverines to go streaking again and back up by more.
Ta’Lon Cooper had 16, while Pharell Payne notched 15 from the pine. The Gophers will be in for a dreadful year if they don’t adjust soon, but that’s asking a lot for a team that just doesn’t have solutions.
Minnesota misses Marcus Carr who is beaming brightly at Texas. Over the past two seasons, they have all dealt with a lot of hardships and are paying the toll for it.
Ben Johnson may be searching for another job in 2023 because of it. Michigan will get to meet up with them again in a month to add more to their present miseries.
