#4: Donovan Edwards Breaks Free for a 75-Yard Touchdown Run

Before the game, Urban Meyer said that Ohio State would shut down Michigan’s running game. The last time he said this, Michigan ran for 418 yards against their opponent, Penn State.

Meyer was right for a while though, as Jim Knowles had schemed the defense into holding Michigan tight on the ground. About halfway through the fourth quarter, Knowles needed it on one drive more than ever.

Following Jake Moody’s missed 57-yard field goal attempt and Ohio State’s field goal to bring them within eight, Ohio State was a stop-and-score away from being right back in the game.

The stop was the first part and would be absolutely critical for the Buckeyes to have a chance. That didn’t happen. On the first play of the drive, Michigan’s offensive line put on a one-play clinic and parted the Red Sea for Edwards to run through. He ran the whole field, going 75 yards for a touchdown.

Michigan had 10 rushing yards at halftime. The Wolverines found some success in the third quarter but hadn’t really run the ball well until this play.

An offensive line that didn’t have a great first half found their footing and had their best snap on this play. Most importantly, Michigan sealed the game with this score. Michigan truly broke Ohio State’s will, and it showed, as the rest of the drives ended in either Ohio State turnovers, Michigan touchdowns, or victory formation. Edwards, who was recruited heavily by the Buckeyes, did choose to make Columbus his home, however, did so as a Michigan Wolverine.
