Michigan football scored its first win in Columbus in 22 years and soon after The Game, the Wolverines landed a 2023 commitment from Ohio.

The wins just keep on coming for Michigan football.

Not long after the Wolverines finished off a massive 45-23 win over Ohio State, their second in a row and first win in Ohio in two decades, the 2023 class landed a commitment — from an Ohio kid in Cameron Calhoun.

Not long ago, Calhoun who is ranked No. 481 overall according to the On3 consensus rankings was actually committed to Cincinnati but decided to re-open his recruitment after a visit to Kentucky.

It seemed like the Wildcats were the favorite and they actually were the leader according to the On3 prediction machine, at least until the Wolverines hosted Calhoun for a visit last week.

He seemed impressed with the win over Illinois and planned on taking another visit in December, which was a good sign for the Wolverines.

Now, after another defining win for this Michigan football program under Jim Harbaugh, Calhoun shut down his recruitment and announced for the Wolverines.

Breaking down the latest 2023 commitments for Michigan football

Calhoun’s commitment is a big one for Michigan football because it didn’t have any defensive backs committed yet in the 2023 class. The Wolverines have made a move with some other defensive backs but it’s nice to get the ball rolling and beat out an SEC team in the process.

Kentucky has done a really good job of recruiting Ohio and with Mark Stoops (from Youngstown) on staff, it’s not a surprise.

But Calhoun’s commitment is the second in two days from the state of Ohio. On Friday, Michigan football landed Breeon Ishmail out of Ohio. He’s ranked No. 862 according to the 247 sports composite rankings and could be an outside linebacker or an EDGE at 6-foot-4, 217 pounds.

One thing this staff has always been able to do is evaluate talent and that’s gotten even better with Mike Elston on staff. So I’m not worried at all about these rankings.

Rod Moore was a three-star recruit that the Buckeyes didn’t show much interest in and on Saturday, he broke up two passes, after having a great game against Ohio State in 2021.

And this also just feels like the beginning. Steve Clinkscale is from the state of Ohio and after two straight wins over the Buckeyes, and Clink’s ties to the state, expect a lot more commits from the Buckeye State, which as we all know, is when Michigan football recruiting is at its best.
