Michigan Football: Blake Corum will play against Ohio State
The reports are that Blake Corum is going to be able to play for Michigan football vs Ohio State on Saturday along with some other key players.
The biggest question facing Michigan football going into the Ohio State game, outside of the passing game, is the status of Blake Corum and a number of others.
Both teams are dealing with injuries. However, no injury is going to have a bigger impact on this matchup, potentially, than Corum’s.
Corum suffered what was described as a knee bruise against Illinois. Jim Harbaugh said there was no structural damage but offered no updates on Monday.
Harbaugh still hasn’t said anything about Corum, other than saying if guys could play this week if physically possible without risking more injury, they would play and that appears to be the case with Corum according to Adam Rittenberg from ESPN.
There have been reports that Corum took part in practice this week and Chris Balas of The Wolverine said he was getting work with the No. 1’s in the walkthroughs.
Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider went even further reporting that Corum, Donovan Edwards, Trevor Keegan, Luke Schoonmaker, and Mike Morris are all going to play against the Buckeyes.
Rittenberg said it was dependent on warmups but it sounds like the decision is made and that’s great news for Michigan football.
What Corum and others mean for Michigan football
Corum has been the focal point for the Michigan offense throughout the 2022 season. He’s been the best running back in the country and has a shot to win the Heisman Trophy.
This matchup was billed as a battle for the Heisman prior to the injury since Corum and C.J. Stroud are among the leading contenders at this point.
The injury to Corum, which happened after he rushed for over 100 yards in a half against Illinois, the best run defense in the Big Ten outside of Michigan’s.
Yet, we also saw how much Edwards was missed the last two weeks and not just as a runner. He’s a dangerous weapon in the passing game and I wouldn’t be shocked to see J.J. McCarthy targeting Edwards and Schoonmaker a lot.
Trevor Keegan is also important. Giovanni El-Hadi has actually played really well in his absence, but Keegan is an All-Big Ten type of player to me and it would be great to see the front five at full strength. Trente Jones should play too but Karsen Barnhart will probably start and he deserves it.
Morris was sort of expected but it’s good to hear that all of the questionable guys are going to play. Will they be effective? That’s the question but I wouldn’t doubt any of these guys and especially Blake Corum.
If he does something special, Michigan can win this game and he can win the Heisman.
