Michigan Football: 5 Biggest Players from the Wolverines’ Win over OSU

All season, people have been questioning J.J. McCarthy’s capability to play up to the hype he brought. Until today, you could argue that he had not; he had been rather inconsistent and was a little shaky against Illinois when he needed to step up.
Those concerns were again brought up again today when it became clear that Michigan was going to need to pass the ball. It did not help that he came out a little overambitious and missed a few early throws.
Once he settled in, McCarthy proved to not just the Michigan faithful, but to the entire country that he is that guy. He consistently was able to hit on the deep ball that plagued him all year and took an Ohio State defense that was begging him to throw the ball and made it pay.
McCarthy finished 12-24 with 263 yards and three touchdowns. He added 27 yards and a score on the ground. He did not turn the ball over once.
Michigan’s offense has been largely one-dimensional all season. With Blake Corum, that’s not really a problem. However, against Illinois, we saw that the offense needed multidimensionality to succeed without Corum and against great defenses.
While we didn’t see that capability last week, we certainly saw it today. If McCarthy can consistently play like this, Michigan does not have a ceiling going forward.
