Michigan Football: 5 Biggest Players from the Wolverines’ Win over OSU
3. Donovan Edwards
Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles made it clear that the Buckeyes’ number one priority was stopping the run. The Buckeyes did a good job at this for a while and held Michigan to just 10 rushing yards in the first half.
Things were looking bleak; Corum was out, Donovan Edwards hadn’t been playing much, and Michigan was giving 3rd down carries to linebacker Kalel Mullings.
This changed in the second half. Michigan football started to trust Edwards a little more, and the ball started to move on the ground.
Then, in the fourth quarter, lightning struck.
Coming off of an Ohio State field goal, Donovan Edwards takes the first play of the drive 75 yards to the house. And if that wasn’t enough, he did it again the next drive, only from 85 yards. This iced the game, sealing Michigan’s first win in Columbus since 2000.
Blake Corum has been Michigan’s offensive identity all season. This is not a dig at the rest of the Wolverines; Corum might be the best offensive player in the country.
However, his rushing production needed to be picked up, and Donovan Edwards filled right in. It took a little while, but the success certainly arrived.
