The defense deserves more credit

Michigan football fans are signing the praises of Jake Moody, as they should, but the defense deserves a ton of credit for winning that game too.

Illinois went up 17-10 late in the third quarter and the defense looked gas. I wondered how the Wolverines were going to stop Chase Brown over the next quarter, but they did.

Brown got 148 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per carry, but you know what, that guy is right on par with Blake Corum, so again, tip your cap.

But on the last few drives, Michigan football stonewalled him. The Wolverines also came up with a big-fourth down stop (Illinois was inside the 30) to keep it a one-score game.

The defense had its back against the wall on a few drives and got stops when they were needed. That’s what championship teams do.

Is this a championship team? We’ll find out next Saturday in Columbus, but even though it was ugly at times, the win against Illinois told us something about the DNA of this team.
