2. Michigan’s offense can hang without Blake Corum

Yes, the Wolverines prevailed over Illinois without him and some other key starters, but this is an overreaction that would not be true if they were playing the likes of Ohio State or Georgia.

J.J. McCarthy did what he had to do in the win, but struggled to deliver the ball at critical times and missed open receivers on way too many passes.

C.J. Stokes was Michigan’s leading rusher with 36 yards behind Corum. He was finding holes, but not to the effect that Corum can. He’ll be a solid runner in the future, but Michigan’s offense unequivocally runs through Corum and Donovan Edwards. Those two are the keys to the ignition of Michigan’s run-heavy attack.

Take away a Heisman candidate from an offense and things change instantaneously. Just look at Tennessee without Hendon Hooker in the loss to South Carolina.

Sure their defense couldn’t stop a turtle from moving through them, but without Hooker, they had no chance of beating a capable South Carolina program, especially away from home.
