3 things we learned in Michigan Basketball win over Purdue Fort Wayne
2. Spacing won’t be an issue in 2022-23
One thing that plagued Michigan basketball throughout last season was a lack of spacing and it was an issue for Hunter Dickinson.
Most of the time, he was able to overcome it and he actually became a solid 3-pointer shooter in his own right last season, but this year, spacing isn’t going to be a problem.
In Howard and Joey Baker, Michigan basketball has two deadly 3-pointer shooters. They attempted 16 shots from beyond the arc and made eight. Kobe Bufkin didn’t make any 3-pointers, but he looked much better to me last season. He’s taken a leap and it’s on defense too.
Jaelin Llewellyn was also 0-for-3 from deep and Terrance Williams missed a couple of treys. He shot 38 percent last season and Llewellyn was also above 35 percent. When those guys are hitting shots more consistently, that will help.
But the bottom line is that Michigan basketball can surround Dickinson with three or four 3-point shooters at all times that’s going to allow him more room to work easily inside this season.
It worked on Monday night as he scored 22 points on just 11 shots. Jett stole the show, yet it was Dickinson who led the way on the stat sheet. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots.
