Michigan Football: 3 things the Wolverines need to improve after Rutgers
Better first-half play
If the Wolverines can figure this one out, they’ll be in a VERY good position. Michigan has been an incredibly dominant second-half team. They’ve has outscored their last four opponents 100-3 in the second half. That is dominance.
The first half, however, has been a different story. Every first half within Big Ten play minus the Iowa game has been within seven points. That’s something that needs to change. The Wolverines cannot expect to walk into Columbus and win with a lackluster first half.
You get the feeling that for a team to beat Michigan football, they’ve got to come out firing. I’m sure that’s what Ryan Day is telling his team every single day, and it’s a safe bet that Ohio State is going to try some deep shots very early against the Wolverines.
While I trust this staff to make excellent adjustments when you play the best you just don’t have that margin of error. Michigan has an incredibly talented team that can beat anybody, but it’s key that they figure out how to dominate the first half.
I trust that the staff understands this and is preaching early dominance. I think that against Nebraska on Saturday we’re going to see the Wolverines looking to make a point.
Some of the sloppiness against Rutgers can be blamed on the amount of inactive key players, but there are no more excuses going forward.
Look for the Wolverines to put together two dominant performances over the next two weeks. Two performances will fire up the fanbase and grow the seed of doubt within Buckeye fans.
Michigan fans, we’re less than three weeks away. And this team is hungry. Count on some impressive performances over the next two weeks.
