Michigan football hits the road this week and here are five predictions for the Wolverines against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

Much of the talk this week has been about what happened after Michigan football’s win over Michigan State, instead of what happened on the field.

There was more uproar as the playoff selection committee ranked Michigan football No. 5 overall behind Clemson. To me, it doesn’t really matter because the playoff probably isn’t going to happen without a win over Ohio State.

So the mission has always been the same. If Michigan wins the Big Ten, it will make the playoff, even if it is not undefeated.

Looking ahead to Rutgers, here are some keys and some things you need to know about the Scarlet Knights, and finally, here are our five predictions and a score for Michigan vs Rutgers.

The same game plan and the same result

I know a lot of people are calling for Michigan football to open up the offense against Rutgers but I don’t see it happening. Rutgers is really good at liming deep pass plays and designs their defense in large part to limit that stuff.

If Rutgers sells out to stop the run, then I can see that changing. But if it plays its safeties deep, then I think we’ll see lots of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards. Even if there are eight in the box.

Outside of the red-zone issues, Michigan football has been really effective on offense and I don’t see the game plan changing. Ground and pound.

Rutgers does have a top-six rush defense in the Big Ten and a top-six pass defense. But it won’t be enough to stop Blake Corum who goes over 120 yards.

Michigan football will get over 200 total too.
