How will Michigan’s red zone offense look?

Everyone has been talking all week about Michigan’s red zone offense and what the Wolverines can do to fix it.

The fact of the matter is that it needs to be much, much better in a few weeks’ time. To be honest, the fact that we are even talking about this so late in the season is a little concerning.

Michigan had a bye week to do a self-scout and figure out that it had red zone issues in the Iowa game, the Indiana game, and the Penn State game. That’s three straight games of hardcore evidence suggesting Michigan struggles in the red zone.

If nothing changes against Rutgers (in which Michigan *should* be able to experiment a little bit in the red zone against a vastly inferior opponent) it is officially time to be really concerned in Ann Arbor.

I am not joking when I say Rutgers is dead last in the country in the red zone defense. 131st out of 131 FBS teams. They have given up a score every single time a team has gotten into the red zone. 100% efficiency against Rutgers.

If Michigan can’t score touchdowns against the literal worst red zone defense, I don’t know what to say.

Obviously, there’s also the factor of home-field advantage and Rutgers getting up for this game and trying to muddy it up (and playing spirited football, like every Big Ten team loves to do against the Wolverines) but still, Michigan has the better athletes all across the board. They need to show it in the red zone.
