5 bold predictions for Michigan Basketball in 2022-23 season
A 6th straight Sweet 16
If anyone doubted the abilities of Juwan Howard to coach, he has silenced those critics in the last two NCAA tournaments, but especially last season as he led the 10th-seeded Michigan basketball team to the Sweet 16.
Juwan and his staff should have an even better roster in 2022-23 and multiple guys, even the head coach himself has said there is better chemistry with this group. Hunter Dickinson even compared it to the 2020-21 team that made the Elite 8.
Hopefully, it comes together like that team, which in my opinion, would have won the national championship had Isaiah Livers not been hurt. Yet, the togetherness and that championship culture (that team had) were missing for part of last season.
Michigan found it in the latter stages of the season, but those early struggles resulted in a battle just to make the NCAA tournament.
The Wolverines shouldn’t have those issues again. Dickinson’s return was a huge boon for the tournament prospects and while there are newcomers and freshmen that need to step in and play well right away, it’s not a bold prediction to say Michigan will contend in the Big Ten.
I’m not bold enough to predict a Big Ten title or a Big Ten tournament title but neither would surprise me. However, I will go on record that this team will make it six straight Sweet 16 appearances, and beyond that, just about anything is possible.
