Terrance Williams will double his scoring average

One of the Michigan basketball players not talked about enough heading into this season is Terrance Williams, who I expect to be the starting four for the Wolverines.

Williams probably isn’t a true four but that’s going to be his best position. Michigan is going to need his rebounding and also his 3-point shooting (38 percent last season on 52 shots).

This season, Williams is going to get a lot more than 52 3-point attempts. He needs to improve defensively but I believe he will. Hunter Dickinson sang his praises this offseason and the two have a great chemistry together. Even as a freshman, Williams was really good at getting the ball to Dickinson in high-low situations.

Terrance is the kind of guy that will do whatever it takes to win. It’s not always going to be flashy, but the dude is clutch. Remember the two offensive rebounds against Tennessee? Or when he went 3-for-4 (in each game) from deep against Michigan State and Ohio State?

Williams only scored in double figures five times last season. But he also played 20 minutes or more only seven times. This season, I’d expect him to play 20 minutes or more almost every night so that’s why I see him doubling his scoring production into the 8-9 range.

That might not sound like a lot. But it probably means he’s averaging more than a 3-point make per game and that’s exactly what U-M needs from Terrance in 2022-23.
