More of 5-star freshman Will Johnson

Will Johnson, the 5-star freshman cornerback has progressively been earning more playing time. I think that by the end of the year, he will be a full-time starter. The staff has shown that they trust him, playing him during crucial possessions, and even matching him up 1-on-1 against Jayden Reed, one of the best receivers in the Big Ten.

Reed’s stats? 4 catches for 17 yards. He also matched up with Keon Coleman and helped eliminate him during the second half.

Will is exactly what you want in a corner — tall, fast, and athletic. He’s a guy you can put on an opposing team’s best receiver with confidence. DJ turner has that too, but he’s shorter than Will by two inches according to their team profiles- 6’2 to 6’0.

The height of Will Johnson will be a great thing to have when he’s matched up against 6’4 Marvin Harrison Jr, the son of hall-of-fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison. While Harrison Jr. has been torching defenders all season long, Johnson, although just a freshman, could be the best cornerback he’ll match up against.

I’ve always believed that being a freshman defensive back is the hardest thing in college football. College wide receivers are a whole lot better than high school receivers. With all the experience Johnson has been getting, especially these past few weeks, I have no doubt that he’ll feel completely comfortable come November 26th.

To be the best you have to beat the best. This is a chance for Johnson to cement himself as Cornerback 1 next year, and as an early favorite to be a first-round draft choice after his junior year.
