A little less Blake Corum

I know this may not be a popular opinion, but yes, I think the Wolverines should limit Corum’s usage over the next two-three games.

I would absolutely love Corum to be in New York for the Heisman ceremony or for him to win the Doak Walker award. I think he deserves to be in contention for both, but at the end of the day, I’d much rather preserve his health for the remainder of the season.

Since conference play, Blake Corum is averaging 29 carries per game. Going solely off of that would put him at #1 in the country for carries per game. Running backs, or any player in general, can only take so many hits in such a short time period.

It is absolutely essential that Corum stays healthy for the remainder of the year. I’m already shocked that despite the fact that we’ve had one game decided by fewer than 10 points, Corum has still had almost 30 carries per game. I think the staff needs to realize that Corum is not immortal no matter how much it seems like he is.

Coinciding with this, I’d love to see CJ Stokes get more action. Ever since his costly fumble vs Maryland, the staff has not given Stokes any meaningful action. Stokes seemed like a home run at the beginning of the year, and I’d love for the staff to trust him again. He’s a guy who can get tough yards when it matters and can really be a contributor to the team.

As a whole, I’d love to see Corum’s workload cut in about half. I think 10-15 carries a game would be perfect for him, at least against Rutgers and Nebraska. If you need more from him against Illinois, then go for it, but that’s where I stand on Corum.
