Michigan Football: 5 things to know about Michigan State
4. Michigan State has plenty of skill position talent
The Spartans are a scary team because they still have Payton Thorne playing quarterback and while they don’t have Kenneth Walker anymore, there is still plenty of skill position talent.
Jalen Berger has had his moments. He just needs to be more consistent and the biggest threats for Michigan football are wide receivers Jayden Reed and Keon Coleman.
They have combined for eight touchdowns and nearly 800 yards this season. I have no doubt we are going to see a few shots down the field and you always have to worry about a team with a talented quarterback hitting on some momentum-changing plays (remember last year?).
Michigan football should have the edge but facing a team with impact players like that is always worrisome, especially with the recent history in this rivalry.
5. The Spartans haven’t won a road game yet in 2022
This is only the third road game for Michigan State in 2022 and so far, they have lost both of their previous trips by double-digits. First was the 11-point defeat against Washington and also a 15-point loss to Maryland.
Wisconsin was the one decent team the Spartans have beaten and the Badgers are struggling too, having fired their head coach.
Michigan State is capable of making a game out of this, but the Wolverines are going to have be sloppy and make some mistakes. Or, MSU will have to play beyond anything we have seen this season (probably a combination of both).
Yet, as we have learned, in this rivalry, always expected the unexpected.
