3 overreactions from Michigan football’s win over Penn State
By Nick Popio
These are three of the most absurd overreactions from Michigan football’s demolishing of Penn State for their seventh straight victory.
In one of the country’s most highly anticipated matchups of the season, Michigan football absolutely pulverized a top-ten team at home.
The offensive line crushed Penn State’s spirits and ran through them for the third most rushing yards that the Nittany Lions have ever given up. The defense fed off of that success and held Penn State scoreless for pretty much the entire second stanza.
Here are the three overreactions.
1. Penn State was overestimated
The Nittany Lions were a top-ten club coming into this one because they won some tough road games earlier in the year at Purdue and Auburn. They were rising up the polls and gaining steam until they ran into the buzzsaw that is Michigan. That makes this an overreaction for this week and we’ll see how they rebound with Minnesota and Ohio State rounding out their October docket.
As one-sided as the affair was going, they did have the lead twice in the contest. That’s when Michigan took firm control and Penn State collapsed. Michigan football showed the national tv audience why they may have the best offensive line for the second consecutive season and Penn State mercifully went flat.
The Nittany Lions still have a lot to accomplish in 2022 and can make some noise heading into the last month of the schedule. A win over Ohio State in two weeks at Happy Valley can certainly make up for Saturday’s flop. 11-1 is not out of the question for them, but 10-2 seems more realistic with all their chips put into that Ohio State showdown in two weeks.
