Hit the deep shot

Arguably the biggest issue with the Michigan offense — and one of the prevailing problems with the team in general — has been the lack of connection on deep shots down the field. For Michigan football to win the game, they need to connect on a few of them.

We know J.J. McCarthy has the talent and ability to hit them. He showed it as a true freshman, and he’s shown it at different points thus far this season.

Much like a great three-point shooter who gets cold, if he can figuratively see one go “through the net” so to speak by connecting on it, it would likely propel him into hitting the rest.

If the Wolverines can stretch the field and make a great Penn State secondary have to respect the ability of the offense to take the top off and actually land it, it will open up the rest of the game.

McCarthy doesn’t have to be perfect. But if he can connect on just the majority of the deep shots that are drawn up, Michigan will win this game.
