3 Keys for Michigan Football against Penn State
By Josh LaFond
Force turnovers, and capitalize on them
In the last three games against Penn State (2019, 2020, and 2021), Michigan football has forced only one turnover, a forced and recovered fumble last season.
For all the ragging we did on Sean Clifford, he has yet to lose a fumble when he uses his legs, nor has he thrown an interception his entire career against Michigan.
The Wolverines meanwhile, rank top 27th nationally in turnover margin, forcing seven turnovers this season. So the ability for this defense to make plays is certainly there.
They just need to do it against Penn State for a change.
Knock the ball out when it’s a pile-up and the running back is fighting for extra yards. Try to strip Sean Clifford as you’re coming in the backfield. Make plays when the ball is in the air.
Get the ball back to this dynamic offense, and allow a team that feeds off of momentum swings to capitalize on Penn State’s mistakes. An extra field goal or a short field touchdown could be what puts the dagger in the Lionheart on Saturday.
