Special teams: A

Michigan football continued to be flawless on special teams. Jake Moody made both of his field goals and his extra points. There was only one kickoff returned and it went for 13 yards.

Iowa also returned one punt for just one yard. Brad Robbins had four punts total and two of them were pinned inside the 20. He had one poor punt but overall, the special teams won the battle.

Coaching: A

It would have been easy for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines to fall in love with their fancy 5-star QB and throw the ball all over the place. It might have worked but it also could have led to an upset. We’ve seen other explosive offenses get pounded trying to do the same thing.

Michigan ran the ball right at Iowa. Not many expected them to do it and they did. It wasn’t Michigan sending a message or anything. It was just the best way to win the game with a young quarterback.

Jesse Minter also did a great job defensively. He’s a home-run hire and call me crazy, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was a head-coaching candidate in a few years. The defensive scheme hasn’t dropped off at all and Michigan football hasn’t really missed Mike Macdonald.
