Michigan will win the running battle

In last year’s Big Ten title game, Michigan had a tough time running the ball but was eventually able to break off some explosive runs.

This season, Iowa is just as good at stopping the run. The Hawkeyes allow 2.3 yards per attempt to opponents and there is going to be some tough sledding. It sounds like Donovan Edwards will be back and that helps.

But this game is going to be about Blake Corum. He’s going to have to be special and I think he’ll find a way to create some chunk plays in the running game. The presence of McCarthy in the zone-read will help and I expect McCarthy to run the ball more too as a QB.

You don’t want him running too much but in this game, you have to do what it takes to win and to me, that means more quarterback runs. Between McCarthy, Corum, and Edwards, the Wolverines will get a few explosive plays, while on the other side, the defense should be able to stymie an Iowa rushing attack that’s averaged just three yards per attempt.
