Michigan football fans have had Iowa circled as a potential trap game and here are five predictions for the Wolverines and the Hawkeyes.

Every Michigan football fan has been looking forward to the Iowa game as the first possible spot of trouble for the Wolverines.

Of course, that ended up not being true. Maryland gave the Wolverines some worry last weekend and had the ball multiple times in the fourth quarter of a one-score game.

But, Michigan football had trouble with Rutgers last year too. Tough wins aren’t necessarily a bad thing and as people say about NFL teams, “The other guys get paid too.” Even in college, Big Ten teams are Big Ten teams. You don’t get to the Big Ten if you aren’t a really good player.

Just something to keep in mind. It’s relevant to Iowa because even though the Hawkeye offense has been bad, it’s capable of making plays and looked better on the road last week in a win over Rutgers.

Anyone who thinks this will be an easy win for Michigan football is much more optimistic than I am. Kinnick Stadium is a house of horrors for the Wolverines or has been and here are five predictions for the latest trip to Iowa City.

A low-scoring struggle

Michigan has an explosive offense. One that has the potential to be an explosive offense, but I think the Wolverines are going to go a little more conservative and I don’t blame them.

Iowa only allows five points per game and 2.3 yards per carry on the ground. Yards, first downs, and points will be at a premium. Protecting the ball wil be even more important, as the Hawkeyes thrive on turnovers.

J.J. McCarthy will get his chances but I don’t see the Wolverines throwing it all over the lot. I expect lots of Blake Corum, lots of kicks, and a game that doesn’t hit the over which is 42.5 points right now according to FanDuel.

It’s going to be a race to the 20s. I think Michigan’s defense will thrive this week and regardless of who wins, I don’t see more than 40 points being scored in this game.
