Blake Corum is still spectacular

The running game looked a little mundane during the first few weeks of the season but part of that was the play-calling and was intentional.

Michigan football didn’t run many of its counters and the stuff where it pulls O-lineman. That was the bread and butter last season and it was unstoppable Saturday. The offensive line responded in a big way after a sluggish non-conference slate and Corum took advantage. We predicted he would finally hit 100 yards and he did it in the first half.

His jump cut on the 33-yard touchdown run before half single-handedly showed what an impact an elite running back can make. If he follows the hole, he gets a first down and maybe a couple of yards. Instead, he bounced to the outside and gave Michigan the halftime lead.

Then, he stuck the dagger in on a 47-yard touchdown run with just over three minutes left. Corum didn’t have many explosive runs in the first three weeks, but had 4-5 on Saturday in a spectacular showing as he finished with 243 yards on 30 carries.

Corum has 474 yards through four games and nine touchdowns. He’s averaging 7.5 yards per carry and when Donovan Edwards gets back, the running game should be as good as expected.

It certainly looked elite on Saturday.
