Andrel Anthony makes a big play

One of the most surprising things to me about Michigan football’s 3-0 start is the fact that Andrel Anthony only has one reception for five yards.

It’s tough because Michigan has so many talented wide receivers. Roman Wilson is playing out of his mind right now and Ronnie Bell is also starting to look like his old self. That doesn’t even mention Cornelius Johnson or A.J. Henning.

So far, Michigan hasn’t taken a ton of deep shots with McCarthy. There were a couple against Hawaii but last week, he was happy to take what the defense gave him. That’s going to be true again this week, but the offense, I believe will be more aggressive throwing down the field.

Anthony is going to be a beneficiary of that. I don’t know that he’ll see the ball enough to have what I would deem a breakout performance. But I do think he catches a touchdown pass and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was from outside the red zone.

We haven’t seen that big-play ability or even a chance to go get a ball. This week, it will happen and the offense will fall just short of a fourth-straight 50-point outing.

Michigan football vs Maryland Prediction

Maryland is going to give Michigan some issues, just because it’s the first legitimate opponent the Wolverines have faced. And as we have documented, the Terps have some talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

The secondary and the run defense (3.3 yards allowed per game) aren’t bad. But they also haven’t seen a team as deep or talented as Michigan.

Maryland will be within a couple of scores at the half, but the Michigan running game and the defense start to wear down the Terrapins in the second half.
