Maryland’s secondary is awful

We just talked about how Michigan football ranks top 3 nationally in pass defense and how elite they are. Now, let’s meet the yin to their yang: the Maryland Terrapin secondary.

If Michigan’s pass defense was the Ritz-Carlton, then Maryland’s would be a Motel-6. But unlike the latter, there’s no light being left on for this unit.

Playing Buffalo, Charlotte, and SMU in weeks 1-3 sounds like a cakewalk, right?

Think again.

The Terrapins have managed to find themselves outside of the top 50 in passing yards allowed. Wait, I’m getting breaking news. Here’s the update: they also find themselves outside of the top 100 (!) in passing yards allowed — and keep in mind who they played.

Maryland ranks 107th nationally, allowing 273.7 yards per game. Yikes.

Ironically enough, all three of Michigan’s previous opponents (Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn) rank much better in this area than Maryland.

Bad news for the Terrapins this week, because this a Michigan football team that appears to have finally found its long-term answer at QB is primed to feast on this horror show of a unit.
