Michigan Football: 2023 recruiting class could still finish very strong
This might be rather obvious, but I will say it anyway: Michigan football fans still finish the 2023 class on a strong note. They could even get a jump start on the 2024 class too.
Michigan’s 3-0 record combined with poor starts from Michigan’s recruiting rivals, Notre Dame, Nebraska, and other schools, and it all sets Michigan up to chip into those rival classes.
Obviously, Michigan football hasn’t played any opponent that has been particularly difficult to begin the season, but as we always say: you can only play the teams on the schedule.
Michigan needs to take care of business against Maryland and Iowa, and then go from there.
Currently, in Notre Dame’s class, OT Charles Jagusah is the biggest potential name to flip, although other names like four-star DL Brandon Davis-Swain (a class of 2024 ND commit) is another name to watch.
Davis-Swain was a surprise visitor on campus for the UConn game last weekend, and the fact he visited unannounced as a Notre Dame commit when Notre Dame has a no-visitor policy once a recruit commits is very telling. That gives me some potential Keon Sabb vibes like last year.
More potential flips for Michigan football
A recruit in Nebraska’s class that might be looking elsewhere is 3-star LB Hayden Moore. Michigan football has apparently reached out to him, along with a few other names, just to gauge potential mutual interest.
Whenever a coach gets fired and recruits are already committed to that school, it’s pretty much a guarantee that that school will have a whole slew of decommitments. That will probably happen at some point soon for Nebraska, with the firing of Scott Frost.
The slow starts from Texas A&M and Miami also have to help Michigan, at least a little bit. Every little advantage helps. The most likely decommit from Texas A&M that Michigan would want is four-star RB Jeremiah Love, who Michigan recruited hard.
On the Miami side, five-star WR Jalen Brown is a name that pretty much all Michigan fans are familiar with. Keep an eye on him for the season.
If you haven’t noticed, both A&M and Miami have offenses struggling to score points, and Michigan football averages the most points in the nation right now.
As I always say, recruiting is extremely fluid. You have to take everything and roll with the punches. Positive or negative.
All Michigan can do is control its own play, and make sure it controls its own destiny on the football field. The rest will take sort itself out.
The staff has already reached out to prospects to gauge their re-interest in Michigan, and a lot will fly under our noses as well. Trust the staff and trust Jim Harbaugh.
Michigan’s definitely not out of it yet with a ton of recruits. As a matter of fact, this 2023 class is just getting started.
We’ll have more in-depth recruiting updates in the coming weeks, but for now, Go Blue!
