3. The defense should have wrecked more havoc

Although Jesse Minter’s guys did a spectacular job making Hawaii uncomfortable, this is a bit of an overreaction being that the starters did pitch a shutout and the backups did not. Hawaii didn’t cross midfield until the second half and finally found its footing after the defense rested its starters in the second half.

They didn’t have as many sacks as they did in week one or turnovers and that will be a problem for some, but they still dominated. Hawaii had a chance to score its second touchdown late in the game but was held out of the endzone thanks to the reserves who would have put a damper on an otherwise sound performance.

Michigan’s defenders have given up two big plays that resulted in scores over the last two weeks which is something they have to work on in practice.

Besides that, they have been doing what they are capable of doing versus the undermanned nemesis. The starters can’t play four quarters in these seemingly preseason matchups because the subs need to see the gridiron for any situations that may arise later down the line.
