Michigan Football: 3 takeaways from the spanking of Hawaii
By Nick Popio
3. When will Michigan get firmly tested to prove its relevance?
The first two wins of the 2022 season have been a walk in the park. Let’s face it, Colorado State, Hawaii, and UConn won’t do much to get this squad prepped for the remainder of the schedule. It’s just a bunch of easy wins to get them primed for the beast that is the Big Ten East.
Maryland is 2-0 but hasn’t beaten anyone worthy of stiff competition yet. They’ll get their shot in the Big House in two weeks and could give Michigan football some problems the likes of which Rutgers did a year ago. It appeared that Iowa was going to be the first real challenge on the gauntlet, but they lost to Iowa State and their offense has been completely invisible thus far.
Halfway through October maybe when the Wolverines finally face some backlash from fellow Big Ten East neighbors Penn State and Michigan State.
That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending upon how things will play out from this point on. Winning convincingly is fun, but how this group responds to being on the ropes will determine if they can be the Big Ten’s stand-alone when the fat lady sings in December.
