Michigan Football: 3 reasons Wolverines will beat Colorado State
By Josh LaFond
Looking to start the 2022 campaign off on the right foot, we break down our reasons why Michigan football beats Colorado State.
Another season is upon us fellow Wolverine fans! This Michigan football team has the opportunity to accomplish great things. The confidence they have is oozing, and with the talent they have across the board, there’s plenty of cause for optimism in Ann Arbor.
Going against the Colorado State Rams in Week 1 presents an opportunity for the two new co-coordinators Jesse Minter (defense), and Matt Weiss (offense) to get into a rhythm.
The Rams are in a bit of a flux. Bringing in former Nevada Wolf Pack head coach, Jay Norvell, at the same position.
This team is in a bit of a rebuild mode, looking to establish the Norvell air-raid offense in Fort Collins, Colorado, that saw Nevada post record passing stats.
The defense outside of returning star linebacker, Tavian Brown — a PFF darling — has plenty of holes to fill.
Colorado State would love nothing more than to ring in the Jay Norvell era with an upset of epic proportions.
But we don’t think that happens.
Here are three reasons why we think Michigan beats Colorado State in week one.
1. Wolverines don’t lose to Group of 5 teams
In the 11 games against Group of 5 teams in the non-conference slate, Michigan football has gone undefeated during the Jim Harbaugh era.
Each of those wins came by more than three scores, sans Army in 2019 in a 2OT victory for the Wolverines.
How does this history relate to the game against Colorado State? That this Saturday will not be any different.
With an influx of talent and a new coaching staff, comes awkwardness. Unfortunately for the Rams, they are dealing with both.
While Colorado State is far and away the best competition Michigan will face in weeks 1-3, history shows us that there is nothing to fret about when it comes to Saturday’s showdown in Ann Arbor.
