Pro’s and Con’s of Harbaugh’s QB decision

Harbaugh’s decision to start a different QB throughout the first two weeks of the season has garnered a lot of attention from the media. While opinion is mixed, it seems that public is leaning more towards this being a smart move.

Personally I am a fan of the move. I think it’s a great opportunity to give both players a chance to start a full game and showcase what they can do before Michigan football gets to the brunt of the schedule.

However, legendary coach John Madden exclaimed

"“If you have two quarterbacks you have no quarterback.” -John Madden"

In this sense he is right. It’s bad for team morale and receivers to be constantly seeing new people under the helm. However, all targets have most likely had adequate time and are familiar with both QBs’ tendencies.

To me, those are the two biggest Pro’s and Con’s of Harbaugh’s decision. While there is a long list for both I believe it’s going to boil down to what Harbaugh’s gut tells him. If he’s this uncertain about who he wants to start, and is even considering replacing a Big Ten Championship caliber QB, than that tells me that J.J McCarthy must truly be something special.
