Is Michigan Football still leading for 5-star Nyckoles Harbor?
Nyckoles Harbor, a five-star athlete in the 2023 recruiting class is going to officially visit Michigan football during the Maryland game.
We all know that in terms of 2023 targets, there aren’t any as important as five-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor.
Harbor is the definition of a game-changing recruit and with his size and speed, he’s extremely rare. Right now, he’s ranked 10th overall in the 2023 class according to the On3 consensus rankings and it’s easy to see him being a first-round pick.
What’s wild is that he could probably choose to play offense or defense and be a first-rounder. At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Harbor runs the 100-meter dash in sub 10.3. It’s insane.
He’s built to be an edge rusher but he’s looking more at playing wide receiver. I think Michigan football would let him play wherever he wants. If you can’t make a talented pass rusher or pass catcher out of that kid, you don’t know what you’re doing.
That being said, track is a huge part of his recruitment. Harbor has Olympic-caliber speed or at least good enough speed that the Olympics or at least a great college career could be in store.
It seems like that’s one reason why he might want to play offense as opposed to defense. He could lose some weight, which wouldn’t hurt him on the track.
While his incredible athleticism is why you want him and also why he’s going to make a ton of NIL money wherever he goes, so it doesn’t seem to be a factor, the Wolverines have to sell him on their track program which isn’t going to be easy with LSU, USC and others involved.
Does Michigan football still lead?
I don’t know if there is a true leader but according to the On3 prediction machine, the Wolverines are the slight favorite to land his commitment at 34 percent but LSU and South Carolina have been on the rise. Maryland has fallen back.
According to EJ Holland of The Wolverine Harbor is going to take an official visit to Michigan football during the Maryland game.
With the Terps in the mix (Harbor is from DC) it would be good for the Wolverines to remind him of the separation between the two programs on the field.
The atmosphere is always great during games at the Big House and that should help too, as should Michigan’s academics.
It’s just hard to know what school is going to have the best combination of factors for Harbor. Only he knows what’s most important to him and that’s probably why we haven’t seen any expert projections at this point.
This recruitment is still up in the air and the official visits might end up determining the winner.
