With fall camp underway and the season less than a month away, here’s a look at five Michigan football players who are going to blow up in 2022 in terms of production.

It’s an exciting time to be a Michigan football fan. The Wolverines are the defending Big Ten champs and the 2022 season is right around the corner.

While the Big Ten Media has projected Ohio State to win the Big Ten title in 2022 and installed the Buckeyes as a heavy favorite, there’s a reason the ESPN FPI likes the Wolverines so much.

It should be noted that the metric hated Michigan football last season and gave them a 2-percent chance of winning the league, so it can surely be wrong.

But it’s not wrong about the fact that Michigan is loaded. The 2021 and 2022 recruiting classes were two of Jim Harbaugh’s best and a number of freshmen are going to make immediate impacts, which won’t be easy on a team not short on talent.

In terms of top-to-bottom depth, all the way across the board, this might be Jim Harbaugh’s most talented team, and that’s saying something after losing three top-50 draft picks, and let’s be honest if David Ojabo doesn’t get hurt, he’s a top-10 or 15 pick.

Ojabo was also a great example of how a guy can blow up in just one year. After the first couple of games, nobody was talking about him as a first-round pick. Then the light went on, and by the Penn State game, it was clear he was a first-round talent.

Who will make that leap this season? A bunch of dudes are going to in my estimation and here are five, starting with Donovan Edwards.

Donovan Edwards

Ojabo was never a full-time starter last season and that could be the case with Edwards this year, even as he proves to be one of college football’s most versatile weapons.

Blake Corum is outstanding and deserves all of his preseason hype. I believe he’s one of the five best running backs in college football. But Edwards might be too and will at least be considered among the top 10 by season’s end.

Edwards is going to be a nightmare for defenses and we should see a lot more games like Maryland last year when he went over 100 yards receiving because linebackers won’t stand a chance against this guy in coverage — some DBs won’t either.

He’s incredibly dynamic with the football in his hands and I can’t see wait to see him unleashed.
