9. Illinois (Nov. 19 home)

The Big Ten schedule is always tough and Illinois is no slouch, especially under new head coach Bret Bielema. The Fighting Illini still have a long ways to go and they shouldn’t really challenge the Wolverines in 2022, but a well-coached team can cause issues (see Rutgers in 2021).

8. Indiana (Oct. 8 away)

Two years ago, the Hoosiers beat Michigan and Penn State and were within a win over advancing to the Big Ten title game. Last season though, Tom Allen’s crew totally fell off the wagon. Indiana will have a new quarterback in 2022, but their offensive line won’t be able to handle Michigan’s defense and the Wolverines will win going away.

7. Rutgers (Nov. 5 away)

The last two games against Rutgers under Greg Schiano were tight and with the Wolverines taking a trip to Piscataway in November, I’m a little more worried about Rutgers than most.

The Scarlet Knight offense shouldn’t be too hard to handle, although former top-100 QB Gavin Wimsatt should be taking over at some point. Rutgers won’t make it easy on Michigan and beating the Scarlet Knights on the road won’t be as easy as some people think.
