Michigan Football makes headway at recruiting BBQ but no commitments
Michigan football held its annual recruiting BBQ on Sunday and while there haven’t been any commitments the Wolverines generated some buzz.
Much of the focus for Michigan football’s recruiting BBQ was on five-star QB Jadyn Davis and whether or not he would commit to the Wolverines.
Obviously, Davis and his family came for the BBQ and left without a commitment, but that doesn’t mean that the Wolverines didn’t do what they needed to do.
Going in, it wasn’t likely that Davis was going to pull the trigger this weekend. At least not in a public fashion. Recruits want to have fancy edits done and all that for their announcements.
A silent commitment could have been possible, yet those don’t really mean much. So it was always going to be a wait-and-see approach but from the early reporting, Michigan football did exactly what it needed to. Plus, they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider put out a tweet saying the Wolverines treated Davis and family to a “5-star visit”, while EJ Holland wrote in his report that the Wolverines “hit a home run.”
Every Michigan football fan knows how important it is to land Davis, who is ranked as the No. 2 quarterback overall in the 2024 class, and just like J.J. McCarthy, he has a chip on his shoulder when it comes to Ohio State state.
The fact that he brought all of his family with him, as well as teammates such as Chris Peal, Channing Goodwin, and Jordan Shipp, who could each be joining him at Michigan, says a lot.
Michigan saw its chances take a big jump according to the On3 prediction machine as the Wolverines now have a 79-percent chance to win the commitment of Davis.
Georgia appears to be the top threat but if the Bulldogs take Julian Sayin, then that would further establish Michigan football as the favorite. Clemson is the other power program looming, but the Wolverines feel like the clear favorite.
They just need to close and Davis feels like the perfect five-star QB for Michigan football. He isn’t looking for a guaranteed NIL deal and his interest is in a head coach that can help him get to the NFL. Jim Harbaugh and Matt Weiss can do that.
Davis can also help the Wolverines contend for a national championship.
In terms of how successful the visit really was, we’ll see if the Wolverines can get Davis to pledge sometime in the coming weeks or months. If that happens, it will be very successful.
If this recruitment heads into official visit season next spring, then it wasn’t and all bets are off.
Other tidbits from recruiting BBQ
Davis also wasn’t the only key target on campus. He was among a strong contingent of 2024 prospects including a few ranked in the top 100 overall. There were also some 2023 recruits such as Caleb Lomu and Chris Peal that were in attendance.
Peal is a top target at corner and the same can be said about Lomu at offensive tackle. On3 lists Georgia and Arizona as the respective favorites, but if the Wolverines can get each prospect back on campus for an official visit in the fall, I’d feel good about their chances.
Zack Marshall is also a name to know coming out of this weekend as the three-star tight end, ranked 524th overall according to the On3 consensus rankings, was offered by the Wolverines. He’s a 6-foot-4, 220-pounds and Michigan is already leading via the On3 prediction machine and following the offer, U-M seems to be in the pole position.
