The recruiting BBQ is here for Michigan football and that usually means positive momentum which is exactly what the Wolverines need.

The Michigan football recruiting BBQ is here and this year, it takes on added importance as five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis is going to be in attendance.

This will be the second (unofficial) visit for Davis to Michigan football this summer and leading up to it, EJ Holland of The Wolverine, put in a prediction for Davis to land with the Wolverines in the 2024 recruiting class.

That would obviously be huge for momentum and would wipe away the hurt from missing on Dante Moore and CJ Carr, two in-state, five-star QBs.

However, winning the commitment of the No. 2 QB in the 2024 class (according to the On3 consensus) isn’t going to be easy and Jim Harbaugh needs to be the star of the show.

Davis and his father came away impressed with Harbaugh, and QB coach Matt Weiss and after that first visit, Michigan football got a bunch of expert projections from Rivals.

Holland’s prediction carries even more weight and he used 60 percent confidence out of 100. That means there is work to do and at the bare minimum, Michigan football needs to move the needle and move Davis closer to a commitment.

The Wolverines can’t afford to have this drag out like Dante Moore’s recruitment, because at this time last summer, they were probably viewed as the favorite.

We all thought Michigan just needed a good season to seal the deal, but Jim Harbaugh’s NFL flirtation, NIL, and other factors moved the needle in Oregon’s direction.

Harbaugh can’t let that happen again. Michigan needs a five-star QB to follow J.J. McCarthy — that’s how you actually compete for national titles, so it’s time to deliver.

A stacked weekend of Michigan football recruits

Yet, Davis isn’t the only top target on campus. There is a slew of other recruits from his school, Providence Day, in Charlotte, such as 2023 cornerback Chris Peal and 2024 wideouts, Jordan Shipp and Channing Goodwin.

Goodwin is the son of former Wolverine Jonathan Goodwin, who is the offensive line coach at Providence Day and is a solid connection from Davis to the Wolverines. Channing Goodwin was also recently projected to Michigan by Holland.

Other key 2023 targets such as Jyaire Hill, a long-time top target at cornerback, and also Aaron Gates, a Florida DB commitment, will also be on campus for the second time this summer.

Four-star Caleb Lomu will also be on campus and Ohio offensive lineman Rob Fogler, who doesn’t have an offer, will also be taking in the BBQ according to Steve Lorenz of The Michigan Insider who released the full list of visitors here.

There’s a bunch of guys on campus, some who are committed to Michigan, but many more who aren’t, and the Wolverines need to change that with at least a few guys at the recruiting BBQ.

We are all praying for good news on Davis, but Michigan needs good news in the 2023 class and the BBQ is always a momentum starter.
