Michigan football has been building momentum on the recruiting trail and according to one expert, that should continue for the Wolverines.

The 2023 recruiting class hasn’t quite met expectations for Michigan football but the Wolverines have been building momentum in that class and in 2024.

Michigan has landed a pair of international commitments in the past month, one for the 2023 class and one in 2024. The 2023 commit was French edge rusher Aymeric Koumba. The other was the German defensive tackle, Manuel Beigel.

Both players came from Brandon Collier’s PPI program, which is a program for international football players. Koumba is 6-foot-4, extremely athletic, and long. His upside as a pass rusher is legit and Beigel also has a ton of upside as a 6-foot-5, 282-pound D-lineman.

Collier also teased when Beigel committed, that he might not be the last one of his players to commit to Michigan football in the near future, and on Friday, we got a big hint on that front from EJ Holland of The Wolverine who is projecting Justin Okoronkwo to Michigan.

Okoronkwo took an unofficial visit to Michigan in June and wowed the staff with his athleticism, just like the other prospects, and the Wolverines offered the 6-foot-2, 210-pound linebacker.

Okoronkwo is actually familiar with playing safety, but the German prospect has a big upside at linebacker, thanks in part to his 4.49 speed. Penn State and Colorado also offered.

Another 2024 expert projection for Michigan football

Okoronkwo isn’t ranked right now, but he should be at least rated as a three-star prospect and as the Wolverines have learned over the years, these kinds of recruits tend to outplay their rankings.

Yet, in more good news for Michigan’s 2024 recruiting class and possibly in the recruitment of five-star QB Jadyn Davis, Holland has projected three-star wideout Channing Goodwin to U-M.

Goodwin is 6-foot-1, 160 pounds, and his dad, Jonathan Goodwin, was a former Wolverine. He’s ranked No. 432 overall in the 2024 class according to the On3 consensus rankings and he’s from Providence Day in Charlotte, the same school that Jadyn Davis attends.

Davis, Goodwin, and Jordan Shipp were all part of a group of visitors from the school to Michigan football in June and they will be back for the recruiting BBQ too.

It sounds like Holland could be anticipating a commitment and that would be huge because Michigan will also be pushing for Davis to commit and landing Goodwin would just be another tie to Ann Arbor for the star quarterback.
