Landing Jadyn Davis right now is a must for Michigan Football
By Kyler Kregel
The Wolverines are set to host five-star quarterback Jadyn Davis for the BBQ recruiting event this weekend. Securing a commitment from the talented passer is an absolute necessity for Michigan football.
Michigan football is not known as one of the more “aggressive” teams in recruiting. What we mean by this is that some schools do get pushier and more adamant about getting recruits to commit to their program.
Penn State head coach James Franklin is known as a particularly effective closer in this regard, helping Penn State land quality recruiting classes in 2022 (8th overall) and building another in 2023 (currently ranked 3rd overall).
Harbaugh and company have largely been more laid back, letting recruits proceed a bit more on their own timeline. There certainly are advantages to both, but I would make the case that the Wolverines need to turn the heat up on Davis this next weekend when he visits for the BBQ recruiting event, hopefully convincing him to end his recruitment and commit to Michigan while on campus.
Here are a few reasons why.
It would thoroughly change the narrative around Michigan’s recruiting efforts
July was a good month for the Wolverines, securing a couple of four-star commitments such as Enow Etta, Collins Acheampong, Deakon Tonielli, Semaj Bridgeman, and Amir Herring, along with some under-the-radar additions in Fredrick Moore and international prospects Aymeric Koumba and Manuel Beigel.
However, there is still some national perception of lag as these were overshadowed by five-star quarterbacks from Michigan committing elsewhere, such as 2023 passer Dante Moore to Oregon and 2024 passer C.J. Carr to Notre Dame.
Nationally, landing a five-star quarterback like Jadyn Davis would certainly make some serious noise in the recruiting world, and gives fans a big confidence boost that even in the new NIL era, the Wolverines can still go out and land the top-tier recruits against the big boys.
