Xavier Simpson – Orlando Magic

Xavier Simpson had a pretty good summer league, all things considered. You would’ve liked him to score more, especially because he was a starter for the Magic throughout Summer League and got heavy minutes, but at the same time, we realize he is a PG, and his job wasn’t to score 30 points a game.

Simpson definitely stuffed the stat sheet in all his Summer League games, but he did leave some points on the board, as he really struggled to finish at the rim and his signature hook shot was noticeably off.

He also didn’t play that great defense, but hey, what do you expect from a man his size.

Overall, Simpson played balanced, but it will still be a long way up for him to earn a roster spot on the Magic. He’ll probably be in the G-League again for almost all of, or all of this upcoming NBA season.

Game 1 stats: 3 pts, 5 assists, 6 reb

Game 2 stats: 7 pts, 5 assists, 2 stls

Game 3 stats: 11 pts, 7 assists, 5 stls

Game 4 stats: 10 pts, 6 reb, 9 assists

Game 5 stats: 10 pts, 5 reb, 5 assists, 1 stl, 2 blk

DJ Wilson – Toronto Raptors

DJ Wilson was pretty good in the summer league. He didn’t have to have an amazing summer league but he already became a winner when he was offered and accepted a 2-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.

This is great news for him as he looks to potentially work his way up from an end-of-bench player to having a more defined role.

DJ is still an intriguing player, with great size at 6’10, a three-point shot, and a tremendous wingspan, and if he can put it all together, maybe he can become a mainstay stretch four.

I’d expect him to still get some run in the G-League, as Toronto might want to use his spot for somebody else, but if he shows out there, a more permanent role could be in his future.
