Liberty (NV) three-star DL My’Keil Gardner, No. 488 overall, No. 57 DL

Michigan is in a strong position to win this recruitment and just needs to 100% close it out. Gardner has a commitment date posted for August 3rd, so hopefully, on that day he chooses the Wolverines. He does have a visit planned for the BBQ at the Big House, so that is good news.

Oregon is his dream school though, and with the way Oregon has been recruiting lately, don’t rule out the Ducks quite yet.

Villa Rica (GA) three-star OT Jatavius Shivers, No. 909 overall, No. 80 OT

Unless Michigan gets some flips during football or after football season, OT will probably end up as the weakest link among the positions.

The good thing is Michigan’s tackle depth right now is very deep, so if there was one class to underwhelm, it would be for 2023, but that still doesn’t mean it’s not disappointing to miss out on the best talent.

This is one of the recruits that Sherrone Moore expanded his list for and offered. Shivers recently decommitted from Vanderbilt and hopefully will come up for a game or two during the football season.

(Also, I think one of the main reasons why Sherrone hasn’t been able to work his magic on the recruits as much in this cycle and has struggled to get his OT guys is because of the added responsibilities of playcalling duties.

He doesn’t have as much time to be on the trail or build relationships with recruits because he has to continuously work with the guys already on the roster and help install the playbook, so that takes time away from his recruiting.

His offensive line unit won the Joe Moore Award last year, he’s proven he can recruit at a high level in the past, and he’s a new co-offensive coordinator.  We’ll give him a pass for this year).
