After some tense waiting periods, Michigan football has finally landed the verbal commitment of 2023 EDGE rusher Enow Etta. Here’s why it’s a huge GET.

There has been a lot of doom and gloom surrounding Michigan football recruiting in the 2023 class, but on Wednesday, the Wolverines landed their biggest commitment yet, getting a verbal pledge from EDGE Enow Etta.

Plenty of Michigan football fans have questioned whether the Wolverines could still land top-100 or top-200 talents in this new era of NIL and over the past couple of weeks, they have answered that question in the affirmative.

Collins Acheampong isn’t a top-200 recruit but he’s got the talent to be one and beating out Miami in his recruitment shows that the Wolverines can win the NIL battle.

The same was true with Etta who also considered Michigan State, Stanford, and Alabama. The main rival was Michigan State and there was some concern as the recruitment seemed to drag on.

Etta visited both schools in June but the Wolverines won out and Jim Harbaugh was a huge reason why according to what Etta told The Michigan Insider:

Etta is out of Colleyville, Texas, and is ranked 125th overall in the 2023 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings and is by far the Wolverines’ top pledge. He’s 6-foot-4, 260 pounds and with Mike Elston on staff, he’s got star potential.

Michigan is also known for developing pass rushers and Etta got to spend time with both Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo on his visit.

The last few weeks were a little nerve-racking, especially as Michigan State was making a push and the Spartans are known for having a more dynamic pitch for NIL to recruits — meaning they are willing to go where Michigan isn’t.

Despite that, the Wolverines still won this recruitment and that’s a huge sign going forward that it can still attract elite prospects.

Michigan football is now ranked 36th overall in the 247 team rankings for the 2023 recruiting class with 11 commitments — five of those are four-star pledges and four of those have committed this month.

There is still plenty of work to do, but Michigan is trending in the right direction on the recruiting trail and there’s no doubt, that this kind of (recruiting) victory is the kind that allows some true momentum to be built and that’s a good thing heading into the BBQ.
