Michigan Football: 3 thoughts on QB recruiting for Wolverines
The new priority
Things didn’t work out with Dante Moore or CJ Carr. There were a number of different reasons for that but the good news is that Michigan football is getting traction with another five-star QB and that’s Jadyn Davis, a five-star in 2024.
Davis is from Charlotte, North Carolina, and has some ties to U-M through Jonathan Goodwin, a former Wolverine, who has a son that plays with Davis and holds a Michigan offer. They both visited Ann Arbor in June, along with another teammate Jordan Shipp.
Davis is ranked 10th overall in the 2024 class according to the On3 consensus rankings and he’s the No. 2 QB overall (ranking higher than CJ Carr).
Michigan football was projected to land him by some recruiting experts at Rivals and the Wolverines also lead according to the On3 prediction machine. Clemson is sitting in second and with Georgia trending for five-star Julian Sayin, the Tigers could be the main competition.
Davis and his father both talked about how impressed they were with Harbaugh and his NFL background, as well as QB coach Matt Weiss. That development and what Harbaugh did with guys like Andrew Luck and Colin Kaepernick, even Alex Smith, is still relevant to QB recruits.
If the Wolverines land Davis, then who cares about Dante Moore and CJ Carr? Those losses won’t matter one bit.
So the focus should really be all-in on Davis. Getting a QB in 2023 pales in comparison to the importance of landing Davis. He’s talked about getting back to campus for the recruiting BBQ in July and that should be the top priority right now in terms of QBs.
At this point, it’s probably too late to change things with Moore, but with Davis, the Wolverines have a perfect opportunity to add another five-star QB to the pipeline and they have to take advantage of it.
