Updated Michigan Basketball depth chart projection for 2022-23
Center: Hunter Dickinson, Tarris Reed
This is by far the easiest projection as the former All-American is the centerpiece for Michigan basketball in the 2022-23 season.
Some national analysts are sleeping on the Wolverines and have them outside of the top 25 following departures from Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate, but this lineup, assuming Williams starts, will be made up of five former top-100 recruits.
Dickinson, Howard, and Bufkin were all top-50 guys. Dickinson is going to be an elite scorer and his 3-point shot should be an even better weapon this year.
The Wolverines added more shot-creators to this year’s team and surrounded Dickinson with a bevy of shooters in Jett, Joey Baker, T-Will, Llewellyn, Youssef, Bufkin, and others like Tschetter and Barnes. Even projected backup center Tarris Reed can shoot.
Reed, who is 6-foot-10, also has the ability to play the four. I don’t see him playing as much alongside Hunter as Diabate did last season, but he would be a better fit. As it stands, I see Reed playing about 10 minutes a game, mostly at the five.
However, the center position and this team are about Hunter Dickinson. The pieces around him are important but at the same time, if he’s as good as expected, he’ll make all those pieces better.
