Khayat can add something in 2022-23

Until Khayat joins Michigan basketball, it’s going to be hard to judge exactly what kind of impact he can make for the Wolverines.

There were similar questions about Franz Wagner but he was already playing for one of the top professional teams in Europer. Khayat isn’t at that level quite yet but this was his first real breakout season and Michigan is getting him at a perfect time.

He’s also older than the usual freshman. However, we should learn from the experience with Houstan and Diabate that the adjustment to college basketball isn’t always as smooth as expected.

But one major concern for Michigan that hasn’t been talked about enough is defense. Khayat could play the role Diabate did last season switching onto guards. He’s also got a tenacious style of play in terms of diving for loose balls and doing whatever it takes (just like T-Will).

He’s also a good enough shooter that he should be able to contribute next season, even if it’s as a player off the bench who plays 15-20 minutes a night.
