Things looking bleak for Michigan Football with Dante Moore
Oregon looks like it’s going to be the spot for five-star QB Dante Moore which will be a terrible blow to Michigan football recruiting.
No two recruitments are the same, but it’s going to be hard for Michigan football to explain missing out on the commitments of CJ Carr and Dante Moore.
And based on how the winds are blowing, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Carr, of course, committed to Notre Dame last month and the five-star QB who is the grandson of former Michigan football head coach Lloyd Carr turned down a chance to play for the in-state school.
That was a blow but since Notre Dame was the presumed leader for Dante Moore, it seemed to open the door a little bit for the Wolverines on that front.
Michigan hosted Moore for a visit and there was talk he could visit Ann Arbor this weekend, but it sounds like he will be making a trip to Oregon and according to a crystal ball projection from Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports, the Ducks will be the pick.
There haven’t been any other crystal ball projections yet but if Dante’s visit to Oregon goes well, that’s probably going to be it for Michigan football.
A devastating blow for Michigan football
I don’t expect the Wolverines to throw in the towel by any means. I’m sure they will recruit Moore until signing day because in recruiting, you just never know and the Ducks do have a first-year head coach and more to prove on the field than Michigan football does. But a flip is unlikely.
Moore has a great relationship with Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham and after Josh Gattis left, he never seemed to connect with Matt Weiss and Jim Harbaugh didn’t seem to be that big of a factor.
Harbaugh has put the Wolverines in a great spot for five-star 2024 QB Jadyn Davis and the hope is that the Wolverines, who are among the leaders, can win that recruitment.
Not having Moore in the 2023 class would probably help and to me, having him go to Oregon is much better than Notre Dame, Ohio State, or another rival.
But it will sting.
There might be time to swing the momentum Michigan’s way, but it very much feels like Oregon is taking control. We’ll see if more expert predictions follow or if Michigan football is able to host Moore for its own visit to offer its final sales pitch (assuming a decision comes relatively soon).
