Michigan football achieved some key objectives this past weekend on the recruiting trail impressing Raylen Wilson and Amir Herring.

It’s true that Michigan football has picked up just one commitment so far from “Victors Weekend” but looking back so far, it’s clear the Wolverines at least achieved some of their top objectives.

For one, Michigan football clearly did well with Enow Etta, one of the top-ranked targets on campus for the weekend, as well as with four-star offensive line Amir Herring.

Both are being projected to commit to the Wolverines by 247 sports and On3. There is still work to do, especially with Etta who is taking an official visit to Stanford and is high on the Cardinal.

However, there was more good news with Herring Monday. After a key crystal ball projection, Herring has now announced a decision date which is July 7th.

Nebraska had clear momentum with Herring at one time, but Michigan football got him back on campus and it looks like it has made him a priority once again. The four-star offensive lineman is ranked fourth in the state of Michigan in the 2023 class, and still has an official visit to Missouri.

The Tigers could sway him but the fact that he set his decision right after his official visit weekend to Michigan was a very good sign. We’ll see if the Wolverines can close.

Good vibes with Raylen Wilson

One of the most important things for Michigan football over the weekend was to impress top-100 commitment Raylen Wilson and it seems like the Wolverines achieved that.

Wilson, a linebacker, has visited Georgia and Florida this month and each program is pushing to flip him after he committed to Michigan back in December.

However, George Helow has a great relationship with him and EJ Holland of The Wolverine reported that Michigan impressed Wilson. You’ll need to read (subscription required) for the full update but Wilson also wrote on social media that he had a “great visit.”

It would be nice to get more commitments out of this weekend, but Michigan is trending with a number of targets, so it’s only a matter of time.

But keeping Wilson as a commitment is also vitally important and after this visit, there feels like a better chance of Michigan doing that.
