Michigan football has been gaining momentum with five-star QB Dante Moore and here are three reasons for optimism.

It’s been a wild week in terms of Michigan football recruiting as five-star legacy CJ Carr committed to Notre Dame over the Wolverines and others.

And while that was hard to see happen, you can’t fault a kid for going where he wants to go and you definitely can’t fault Lloyd Carr for supporting his grandson.

So even though I didn’t love the Notre Dame hat, no grandfather in the world isn’t going to cheer on his grandson. Be happy for the Carr family and what it means for Dante Moore.

Following Carr’s commitment, Michigan football seems to be on the rise, and starting there, we look at three reasons for optimism with Dante Moore.

Notre Dame is no longer the leader

No matter how much Notre Dame fans want to argue, the Irish essentially took themselves out of the Dante Moore sweepstakes, and while the five-star QB from Detroit didn’t say anything negative about Carr’s commitment, he did say this to Rivals:

"“When he committed I told him congrats, it’s a true blessing for him, I’m never going to throw dirt on his name, it’s all love. I appreciate him a lot, he’s from Saline, Michigan, an hour away from me. I respect him a lot, great kid, great player, he has a great family behind him. It’s kind of surprising. Actually, it was very, very, very surprising. I don’t really have much to say about that.”"

The fact that he said it was surprising is pretty significant. But Moore hadn’t visited Notre Dame since March and the Irish, who were the heavy favorite, already seemed to be fading.

There have been conflicting reports about whether Notre Dame will keep recruiting him. The Irish probably will but if they take his commitment, it could impact CJ Carr and I don’t see that happening.

Moore might not end up at Michigan, but I don’t see him at Notre Dame and that move by the Irish put the Wolverines in a much better position.

Why? Relationships.
