A perfect roster fit

So far, Michigan basketball has been in contact with Jacob Grandison out of Illinois and it seems like Joey Baker of Duke since the main Michigan basketball Twitter account is following him.

Baker and Grandison would be great fits too. Each shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range last season and could also fill a role for the Wolverines on the wing.

As Michigan learned last season, you can never have enough shooting and while Jett Howard should be able to fill Houstan’s role effectively, the Wolverines also lost Eli Brooks and didn’t have enough shooting even to begin with last season.

Akot would fill that need while also being able to start and contribute in a number of very real ways. Pete Nance was a target a number of Michigan basketball fans mentioned, but I’d honestly take Akot over him.

I love his skill set and his versatility. There are not many transfers available who can make nearly 2 triples per game, dish out nearly three assists, and guard multiple positions (and do it well).

Whether it’s been incoming freshman or transfers, Juwan Howard has been good for the NBA prospects of Michigan players and if Akot wants to get to the league, the Wolveriners are probably a better option than the other teams listed.

Akot’s a little underrated in my opinion, based on what he could do. I overlooked him I guess because I assumed his recruitment was farther than the road than it appears to be. He’s been very secretive about things and there haven’t been rumblings about Michigan or other teams for that matter.

But I hope the Wolverines are making a push here. As a graduate transfer, he would have one more season which would be perfect for future recruiting and also not having to worry about the admissions hurdle that comes with non-graduate transfers past their freshman year of school.

Akot is a pro-level player who can provide 3-point shooting, solid defense, ball-handling, and playmaking, plus some of the size and athleticism U-M lost when Diabate stayed in the draft.

The former five-star recruit says he will be making a decision soon and if Michigan basketball is involved and able to land him, it would be a home run.
