Some final thoughts on the Michigan basketball careers of Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate as the Wolverines try to pick up the pieces moving forward.

The former five-star recruits announced yesterday that they are foregoing their remaining eligibility and taking their untapped talent to the next level.

Both Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate were expected to do this, so it doesn’t come as earth-shattering news that they’re leaving. However, the concern of whether they’re built for success is another question they must seriously ponder. It’s hard to change the minds of young people who have their sights set out on something the moment they realize that it’s achievable.

Moussa Diabate

Diabate let his intentions be known first on Wednesday. He had a good combine and met with a few teams beforehand which made his decision easier. He’s likely a second-round pick, but could very well go undrafted. That’s a very risky choice for a young man who didn’t develop into the phenom that many thought he would be in one year in Ann Arbor.

The big couldn’t shoot the three to save his life like so many bigs have showcased in their own game these days. Word on the street is he has been working on that in his draft prep though. He also has weak hands. Many times when he was in the paint he would have trouble grasping the ball to collect it and either make a basket or pass it to a teammate.
