Jacob Grandison

A name that just entered the transfer portal this week is that of former Illinois guard Jacob Grandison and I think he would be another great fit for the Wolverines.

He’s a 6-foot-6 combo guard/forward and he’s made over 41 percent of his 3-pointers over the last two years playing for Illinois. He spent two seasons there and two seasons prior to that playing for Holy Cross.

Grandison did enter the portal late and would need a waiver (but who expects he won’t get it?). Yet, he would be a graduate and has just one year remaining which is perfect for Michigan because of admissions and recruiting numbers.

Grandison started 23 games last season for Illinois and he would compete with Bufkin for the starting two job. He averaged over two assists per game last season and back in 2020-21, his defensive rating was under 0.96 per 100 possessions.

He would provide depth at guard and maybe even on the wing. He would also give the Wolverines another experienced ball-handler and a proven 3-point shooter in the backcourt.

It seems like a no-brainer. But I’m not Juwan Howard, so we’ll see what the Wolverines do and how it all shakes out. However, I’d expect at least one addition from this list.
